International law firm Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) has promoted seven lawyers to the firm’s partnership in the 2015 round of promotions, bringing the firm’s total number of partners to 140. The appointments will be effective from 1 May 2015 and involve lawyers in five of the firm’s 14 offices.
Three new partners have been promoted in the London office, as well as one each in the Frankfurt, Hong Kong, New York and Paris offices respectively.
The 2015 promotions are as follows:
Ravinder Sandhu – Corporate Group, London
Ravinder specialises in corporate and commercial work, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity/infrastructure transactions, fundraisings and reorganisations.
Andrew Ward – Dispute Resolution Group, London
Andrew’s practice covers commercial litigation, international arbitration and restructuring. He has particular expertise in the maritime sector, regularly advising banks and shipowners on contentious matters involving finance, charterparties, guarantees and MOAs. He also advises on disputes in the oil and commodities industries, often on matters involving fraud. He has extensive experience in resolving disputes outside the formal court or arbitral channels, including through negotiation and mediation.
Andrew Waters – Dispute Resolution Group, London
Andrew focuses on commercial litigation and international arbitration. He has particular experience in disputes related to financial services, including advising on claims involving complex financial products and derivatives, and has also advised on disputes in the natural resources sector, including mining and LNG shipping cases. He has extensive experience of both High Court litigation and international arbitration, including under the LCIA, ICC and SIAC rules, as well as mediation.
Daniel Pilarski – Tax Group, New York
Daniel’s practice focuses on taxation, particularly on the US tax aspects of cross-border transactions, with an emphasis on the maritime and aviation sectors. His advice includes structuring transactions to achieve the optimum tax result by minimising withholding tax and addressing anti-deferral regimes. Daniel advises several clients regarding the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), both in compliance and in documenting FATCA provisions in loan and other agreements. Daniel also helps clients analyse and comply with the US freight tax on shipping income and the exemption from tax.
Daniel’s practice also includes advice relating to ERISA (US pension law), real estate joint ventures and aviation leasing.
Alexia Russell – Finance Group, Paris
Alexia specialises in asset finance and leasing, in particular in the aviation, shipping and rail sectors, and project finance, notably in the renewable energy sector. She has experience in structuring, documenting and negotiating acquisition, financing and leasing transactions and has been involved in numerous complex restructurings in recent years. She acts mainly for banks and financial institutions, equity investors and lessors, but also has experience working with export credit agencies.
Frederik Lorenzen – Finance Group, Frankfurt
Banking and finance specialist Frederik advises on international finance and restructuring transactions, including asset finance, acquisition finance, corporate loans and leasing transactions. He advises financial institutions, borrowers, lessors and lessees.
Christoforos Bisbikos – Finance Group, Hong Kong
Christoforos’s practice focuses on all types of cross-border asset financings, project financings, loan restructurings, work-outs and enforcement. During the past 10 years, Christoforos has been acting for most leading banks in the shipping sector as well as a number of shipping companies. He is also engaged in other various shipping projects, such as the acquisition of vessel fleets, including by way of acquisition of a business as a going concern. Christoforos is admitted to practice law in England & Wales and Greece.
