Watson, Farley & Williams (“WFW”), a leading international law firm, is pleased to announce that it has advised GC Rieber Shipping ASA on the sale of the in-house designed ice-class patrol vessel “HMS Protector” to the UK Secretary of State for Defence.
The MoD has been using the ship as a patrol vessel for the Royal Navy in the South Atlantic and the Antarctic since 2011. It has also provided support for the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office and British Antarctic Survey.
Headquartered in Bergen, Norway, Oslo-listed GC Rieber Shipping ASA is a leading international player in the segment for advanced operations in difficult ice conditions. “HMS Protector” was purpose-built in 2001 for long expeditions to the Antarctic and for subsea assignments offshore. GC Rieber Shipping ASA will continue to provide logistics services to the vessel.
Jonathan Kellett was the lead partner on the sale and was supported by Gary Walsh in London.
Jonathan Kellett, asset finance partner at WFW, said: “We are delighted to have worked with GC Rieber Shipping on this key sale, demonstrating the value of the ice segment market and underlining how WFW is often first port of call for transactions across a broad range of maritime sectors.”
