Watson Farley & Williams Chairman and senior Maritime partner Frank Dunne chaired two panel discussions at the TradeWinds Shipowners Forum Asia 2015, held last week in Hong Kong.
The two panels were entitled “Paying for Shipping” and “Health and Wealth Check for Shipping”. Discussions in the first session focused on several key issues around financing in the shipping sector, such as sources of funding , which sectors can attract funding and why, and whether the role of the ECA’s is distorting the shipping market. The latter panel discussed issues affecting profitability in the industry, such as key factors in sustainable profitability and questions around Hong Kong’s positioning as the pre-eminent Maritime Centre.
Panel members included industry experts such as Nigel Anton, Global Head of Shipping Finance at Standard Chartered, Bart Veldhuizen, Member of the Board of Managing Directors at DVB Bank, Erik Strømsø, Managing Partner at Pareto Securities Asia, Jack Hsu, Managing Director at Oak Maritime Hong Kong and Michael Nagler, Head of Chartering at Noble Group.
The event marked TradeWinds 25th Anniversary year by bringing together leaders of the region’s world-class shipping enterprises for an afternoon of interactive discussions and a networking reception.
