Summary Open

Asha has been a Partner at Watson Farley & Williams since 2012. Her practice includes a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, acting on behalf of employers and senior employees generally on leaving or joining employment. She also advises on cross-border transactions.

Asha is a member of the Employment Law Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales. She is a regular speaker on employment law matters for clients as well as for other organisations, including ILAG (the trade body representing members from the Life Assurance and Wealth Management Industries) where she recently presented to its Non-Executive Forum on the legal aspects of whistleblowing affecting the financial sector. She also speaks on behalf of the CIPD and at client events hosted by Michael Page Plc, for example. In addition, Asha is the author of the Employment Law chapter of the UKTI’s “Investors’ Guide to the UK” publication.

Experience Open

    Asha’s relevant experience includes advising:
    • SMT Holding SA on the employment aspects of its business acquisition through a new UK subsidiary, Services Machinery & Trucks Ltd, of Volvo Construction Equipment’s GB, which included advising on all aspects of employee consultation on the TUPE transfer.
    • A leading Japanese miso producer in relation to the set up of its health food operations in the UK and investment in a number of companies within the UK. Asha was responsible for drafting services agreements for key employees and advised on various consultancy and secondment arrangements.
    • A world favourite cruise company in relation to setting up its UK operations, which involved relocating key staff by offering generous relocation packages and retention rewards.
    • A leading communications company in connection with a dispute arising with the estate of the deceased employee relating to the entitlement to life assurance payments following the death of the employee over the age of 65.
    • A FCA-regulated firm on the closure of one of its UK offices, which resulted in a large number of redundancies.
    • BBSFF EU Rail Lessor Ltd (a subsidiary of Global Investments Ltd), BOSSAF Rail Ltd and Everest Babcock & Brown Opportunities Fund in connection with the sale of Ascendos Investments Ltd, a European locomotive and rolling stock leasing company, to Beacon Rail Leasing. Asha was responsible for the UK employment law aspects that arose from the sale.
    • A HR professional in connection with her whistleblowing complaint against a leading Plc.
    • An advertising company following a request for flexible working from an individual returning to work from maternity leave; and explaining the operation of without prejudice and pre-termination negotiations.
    • A wind farm operator in connection with the competitive tendering process for the grant of offshore transmission licenses, providing advice on the application of TUPE on the termination of O&M agreements and drafting and negotiating the employment provisions to be included in the O&M agreements.
