Summary Open

Alexandra is a Partner in the Hamburg Banking & Finance group of Watson Farley & Williams. She has gained extensive experience in the shipping market having spent eight years in our Greek office before joining the Hamburg office in 2013.

Alexandra is an English qualified solicitor and heads the English law practice in Germany. She specialises in ship finance and also advises on all aspects of English law in relation to asset finance

Her clients include international shipping banks and other financial institutions. She regularly advises banks on all aspects of bilateral and syndicated secured lending including restructuring and other solutions.

Alexandra is fluent in English and Greek.

Experience Open

    Alexandra’s experience includes advising:
    • A syndicate of international banks on the financing of 10 vessels, including a potential listing on a recognised exchange, with a deal value of about $204m.
    • A Swiss bank on the financing of four Newcastlemax bulk carriers post-delivery with a value of US$100m.
    • A French bank on the financing of a fleet of six container vessels acquired by a joint venture created by German owners and private equity funding with a value of US$81m.
    • A Norwegian bank on the re-financing of two tankers and acquisition of a third newbuilding tanker with a value of US$78,987,500.
    • A Swiss bank in relation to existing facilities in place for a German shipowning group to account for the restructuring of the German group and change of ownership, with a deal value of about US$42m.
    • A syndicate of international banks, led by a German bank on the financing of certain vessels acquired by a joint venture created by German owners and private equity funding valued at US$24.5m.
    • On finance leasing arrangements with Japanese leasing houses in respect of newbuilding vessels.
    • Numerous banks and export credit insurance providers on the financing and acquisition of several container vessels by a joint venture set up between a German shipowner and a private equity house.
    • Numerous banks (on unrelated transactions) in relation to the restructuring of existing facilities by agreement with their corporate customers.
    • Numerous banks (on unrelated transactions) in relation to defaults under existing loan facilities and restructuring solutions.
    • Numerous banks (on unrelated transactions) on shipbuilding contracts and related refund guarantees in respect of newbuilding vessels to be financed.
