Dr Christine Bader is a Partner in the Regulatory, Public Law & Competition group in the Hamburg office of Watson Farley & Williams LLP. Her main areas of expertise are German and EU competition law and energy law. She also advises on public procurement and State aid, as well as on sanctions.

In competition law, she advises clients from a number of sectors and markets on the full range of competition issues such as merger control, joint ventures, co-operations and distribution schemes, investigations by the competition authorities, and compliance programmes.

In the energy and infrastructure sectors, she regularly advises on regulatory aspects of projects in renewable and also conventional energy, with a focus on permit, grid connection and remuneration of onshore and offshore wind projects. Her energy and infrastructure clients include investors, financing banks, project developers and utilities.

Experience Open

    Christine’s experience includes advising:
    • A consortium of international banks on the €1.275bn financing of the 400 MW offshore wind farm Veja Mate in the German North Sea.
    • PGGM on the acquisition of a significant interest in the German offshore wind farm Baltic 2.
    • Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on regulatory matters, including energy and grid regulation, unbundling, and merger control in relation to a joint venture with TenneT regarding the €384m investment in the offshore grid connection DoIWin3.
    • An international banking consortium on the financing of the German offshore wind farm project Global Tech I.
    • Allianz Capital Partners on the acquisition of several onshore wind projects and ongoing advice during operation of the wind farms.
    • A project developer on permitting proceedings and on grid connection of a refuse-derived fuel heat and power plant.
    • Hochland, one of Europe’s leading producers and refiners of cheese, on competition compliance, including compliance trainings and regular advice on purchasing and sales agreements and co-operation Projects.
    • Various clients in merger control proceedings.
    • A German municipality on a claim of a new ferry operator for access to port facilities.
    • A producer of automotive parts in an antitrust investigation by the EU Commission.
