Summary Open

George is a Partner in the firm’s Maritime group. His clients include a number of players in the shipping and offshore industries, particularly financial institutions (primarily banks, private equity investors and hedge funds) and shipping companies (owners, managers and charterers). George advises on all aspects of ship financing, with a focus on structured/asset finance, leasing transactions, restructurings/work-outs and large-scale loan portfolio transfers, as well as on the commercial matters relating to the sale, purchase, employment and operation of all maritime asset classes (newbuilding and second-hand).

George has also worked in the firm’s Athens office and has been previously seconded to the Royal Bank of Scotland where he assisted on structured finance transactions.

Experience Open

    George’s experience includes advising:
    • Various investors with their bids/acquisitions of shipping loans owned by commercial banks (distressed, high-yield and/or performing), including the acquisition by Cerberus Partners of HSH Nordbank and the purchase by two major private equity investors of a portfolio of shipping loans with four borrowing groups from Commerzbank.
    • Kyklades Maritime Corporation with their VLCC tanker fleet acquisition, including in relation to the newbuilding/chartering arrangements and financing (by way of a sale & leaseback) with Ocean Yield.
    • Enesel S.A. on its maritime investments and financings, including in relation to its ECA-backed US$380m financing relating to five 13,800 TEU container vessels.
    • The Royal Bank of Scotland with its disposal of the majority of its global US$5bn shipping portfolio to various purchasers.
    • Marubeni Corporation and SK Shipping on all legal aspects relating to their two LNG carriers, including construction, chartering and financing, for utilisation in the Ichthys LNG project in Australia.
    • BNP Paribas on the restructuring of the ECA-backed US$544m pre- and post-delivery financing (and related charter arrangements) to Zim Israel in connection with five container vessels.
    • A French bank on a complex distressed-asset type financing of two product tankers to a NYSE listed group.
    • Geden Lines on the fleet-wide global restructuring of its vessel financings and charter arrangements.
