Lyle is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution team. He has extensive experience advising on dispute resolution issues, particularly in the area of construction and engineering. He is experienced in a range of dispute resolution procedures including mediation, arbitration and litigation in Hong Kong, Thailand and the United Kingdom.

Lyle has over 20 years practical knowledge and experience of the construction industry gained through working for a leading international consultancy practice as a chartered quantity surveyor prior to qualifying as a solicitor and acting as in-house/senior legal counsel for a leading Japanese and Korean contractor. During this time Lyle advised upon all aspects of construction contractual matters relating to mega-value energy, plant, building and civils projects throughout the world. A key element of his role was to assist with strategic commercial negotiations and to assess commercial risk.

Over the last 15 years, Lyle has advised multi-national corporates, major oil & gas companies, casino owners, hydro-electric power owners, international manufacturers, contractors and consultants on a range of commercial disputes that typically arise in the course of business in Asia.

    • A Korean contractor upon all aspects of construction contractual matters relating to mega-value energy, plant, building and civils projects throughout the world, drafting legal agreements, managing all aspects of international arbitrations and mediations.
    • A Thai developer in an arbitration in connection with a dispute arising from a luxury resort in Samui, Thailand.
    • An international trading company on options for terminations of an MOU for a proposed lease.
    • An international trading company on claims arising from a supply agreement.
    • A Thai contractor on potential claims arising from a shopping centre project in Thailand.
    • A regional energy contractor in relation to “high-level” settlement negotiations.
    • An international manufacturer in relation to potential claims arising from an energy services agreement.
    • A Thai contractor in an arbitration in relation to claims arising from a luxury villa development in Phuket, Thailand.
    • A global cereal manufacturer in relation to occupational health and safety issues following a non-fatal accident.
    • An international joint venture in relation to claims arising from a hydro-electric project in Sri Lanka.
    • An international joint venture in relation to claims arising from defective run-way pavements.
