Marcus Mützelburg is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Banking & Finance group and part of the Project and Structured Finance practice. Marcus acts for lenders, sponsors and borrowers in domestic and international acquisition and project financing transactions, in particular in the renewables sector.

Marcus originally joined the firm as a lawyer in the Hamburg office in 2011 and re-joined us in 2016. He is currently working from our Munich office. He graduated from the University of Hamburg in 2007. After his traineeship in Hamburg, Berlin, Zurich and Vienna he qualified as a German lawyer in 2011.

Experience Open

    Marcus’ relevant experience includes:
    • Advising HSH Nordbank on the financing of one Europe’s largest solar farms located in the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein’s Eggebek with a capacity of 84 MWp and an investment volume of approximately €180m.
    • Acting for BNP Paribas as lender counsel on a €87m portfolio financing of six German wind farms (98 MW) developed by Enertrag Structured Finance AG.
    • Advising IWB on the acquisition of the 42 MW Atrebatie wind farm project in the Pas-de-Calais region in France from OSTWIND International.
    • Advising HSH Nordbank AG on the legal and tax services in connection with the portfolio financing of the French solar projects “Aquitaine” (58 MW) and “Biskaya” (51 MW) developed by GP Joule.
    • Advising consortium of international banks, consisting of Banco Santander, Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, KfW, KfW IPEX-Bank, Natixis and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation on the financing of the offshore wind farm project ”Veja Mate” (400 MW) with a financial volume of more than €1bn.
    • Advising an international banking consortium of 18 banks, including, inter alia, NORD/LB, KfW IPEX, Société Générale, DEXIA and EIB on the financing of the offshore wind farm project ”Global Tech I” (400 MW) with a financial volume of more than €1bn.
    • Advising Union Investment on its acquisition of the onshore wind farm “Gibbet Hill” in County Wexford, Ireland from the German project developer ABO Wind, including regarding the project financing.
    • Advising HSH Nordbank AG on all relevant legal and tax aspects of the financing of the 57.7 MWp French solar power portfolio “Lacoste”. The financing of over €75m, which was part-financed by KfW, involved six solar parks developed by BayWa r.e..
    • Advising HSH Nordbank AG on the €150m financing of a 72 MWp solar farm in Schipkau/Meuro, Brandenburg, Germany.
    • Advising HSH Nordbank AG and NORD/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank on the financing of two of the three solar projects that comprise Europe’s largest solar farm to date. The solar farm, located in Briest in the German federal state of Brandenburg, has a total capacity of 91 MWp and involved an overall investment of approximately €200m.
    • Advising HSH Nordbank AG on the legal and tax services in connection with the financing of the French wind farm project “Saint Congard” (8,2 MW) co-developed by BayWa r.e. France S.A.S. and Quenea’ch SARL.
