Dr Stefan Kilgus is a partner in the Banking & Finance Group in the Hamburg office of Watson Farley & Williams LLP. Stefan specializes in project, acquisition and corporate finance.

He regularly advises banks, sponsors and developers on the project financing of offshore and onshore wind farms, solar parks and infrastructure projects in Germany as well as in other European and non-European jurisdictions.

He also assists banks, private equity funds and corporations on the financing of M&A transactions, working capital requirements and capital expenditure.

Stefan has been repeatedly recommended by the industry publication JUVE German Commercial Law Firms. The 2014 edition of Chambers Europe says that “Stefan Kilgus wins praise from clients and peers alike for his thorough approach and technical knowledge”. Experience Open

    Stefan’s experience includes advising:

    • An international consortium of lenders led by KfW IPEX and Dexia and including five other commercial banks, as well as KfW and EKF, the Danish export credit agency, on the project financing of the German offshore wind farm project Meerwind Süd/Ost. This included advice following financial close, during the construction period and in connection with the refinancing by way of a project bond. The project is located approx. 45 km from the coast of Germany, northwest of Helgoland, and comprises 80 Siemens wind turbines with a total capacity of 288 MW. The total investment volume is approx. €1.2bn. A majority stake in Meerwind was held by a Blackstone fund.
    • NORD/LB and Sparkasse Osnabrück, on the acquisition financing of a north German newspaper and media group (Flensburger Tageblatt, Schweriner Volkszeitung etc.) by the shareholders of Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, a regional newspaper.
    • Körber AG on the financing of working capital facilities for the group through Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and HSBC.
    • An international consortium of banks led by KfW IPEX, Dexia, Société Générale and NORD/LB and 12 other commercial banks as well as KfW and EIB on the project financing of the Offshore Wind project Global Tech I. The project is located in the North Sea, about 180 km North West of Bremerhaven and will comprise 80 Areva wind energy turbines with a total capacity of 400 MW. Main shareholders are Stadtwerke München, HEAG Südhessische Energie and Axpo.
    • NORD/LB and KfW on the acquisition financing of Inter-Forum and Syntela by Bregal Funds.
    • KfW IPEX-Bank and SEB on the project financing of the Lithuanian wind farm Silute with a capacity of 60 MW developed by Nelja Energia A. S. ECA-cover was provided by Euler Hermes.
    • KfW IPEX-Bank on the €65 million project financing of the two French wind farms Roye and Fortel, developed by power producer and operator Boralex Europe S.A. Located in the north of France, the wind farms have a combined capacity of 45.6 MW.
    • Equita, a private equity funds, on the acquisition finance of the Rovema group, a leading manufacturer of packaging machines, by NORD/LB, Bayern /LB and Bremer Kreditbank.
    • PNE WIND AG on the financing of nine onshore wind farm projects in Lower Saxony and Brandenburg with a total financing volume of €192.8m. Financing was provided, among others, by HSH Nordbank, Commerzbank and NIBC Bank.
    • 4Wheels group, the market leader in Germany for car tyre logistics and a portfolio company of Capcellence, on its €40 m corporate financing by Commerzbank AG and WGZ Bank AG.
