Our Global Head of Maritime, Lindsey Keeble moderated a panel discussion on the topic of “bringing clean technologies and finance together to achieve net-zero targets”. This was at the “Green Finance: supporting a zero emission maritime future” event, sponsored by the Department for Transport and Maritime London as part of London International Shipping Week 2019.
The panel discussed how the UK can bridge the gap between finance and emerging technologies in the maritime arena. They looked at what external and internal pressures can influence investment opportunities in technologies, and the role that green criteria can play.
After this panel, Lindsey interviewed Noah Silberschmidt, CEO of Silverstream Technologies. Their air lubrication system dispenses microbubbles along the hull of a ship which decreases resistance and increases fuel efficiency. The interview explored how the company succeeded in accessing finance, and how it is able to compete in an increasingly crowded market.
Thank you to Noah and all the panellists: Paul Taylor (Global Head of Shipping, Société Générale) Tony Foster (CEO, Marine Capital) Stephen Fewster (Global Head of Shipping Finance, ING) and Katharine Palmer (Global Head of Sustainability, Marine & Offshore, Lloyd’s Register), for an engaging discussion.
