The UK’s opportunity to host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow is fast-approaching and it couldn’t be coming at a more opportune time. With serious climate-related disasters on the rise globally, the appetite, and indeed need, to tackle climate change and build a more sustainable future has never been higher on the personal, economic and political agendas.
COP26 hopes to deliver, with ambitious aims to secure global net zero by mid-century, protect communities and natural habitats, mobilise US$100bn of climate finance a year and deliver global collaboration to meet the Paris Agreement.
But what can we really expect from COP26 and will it deliver these ambitious goals? Can we dare to hope for tangible change? Or should our expectations be tempered?
