Join Watson Farley & Williams for an afternoon seminar on ‘Navigating the Future: EU ETS and Fuel EU Insights’ on Tuesday 25 February 2025 in Hamburg, just a day before Marine Money.
On 1 January 2025, Fuel EU Maritime Regulation (Fuel EU) will come into force. The European Commission is claiming that it’s the first legislation of its kind globally, but it seems clear that even the Commission doesn’t quite understand how it will work in practice, or the impacts it could have on the shipping industry.
Fuel EU’s overarching purpose is to accelerate the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in shipping. Fuel EU is intended to complement the EU Emissions Trading Scheme for maritime which came into force on 1 January 2024 and is specifically structured to promote reduction of GHG intensity of ships arriving at, staying in or departing from an EU/ European Economic Area (“EEA”) port.
Fuel EU will start to apply from 1 January 2025. It is therefore imperative to understand now how best to prepare.
Join our maritime regulatory specialists, Nick Walker and Valentina Keys, who will discuss key ETS and Fuel EU risks and opportunities, how best to comply and how to secure maximum contractual protection to avoid the risk of litigation.
This seminar is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the regulatory landscape facing the maritime sector, and network with industry peers. Register your interest in attending via the link above.
We look forward to welcoming you!
