WFW advises Vattenfall on entry into UK energy retail market with acquisition of ISupplyEnergy22 June 2017

International law firm Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) has advised long-standing client Vattenfall on its acquisition of UK gas and electricity supply business ISupplyEnergy.

WFW has been advising Swedish state owned utility Vattenfall, which has invested more than £3bn into building one of the UK’s leading wind energy businesses, since 2009. Vattenfall has also recently branched out into solar PV, battery storage and business to business sales.

The acquisition of ISupplyEnergy is Vattenfall’s first venture into the UK energy retail market, and complements its existing business in that sector across Northern Europe, where it provides power, gas and heat to more than eight million customers.

The WFW London team advising Vattenfall was led by Partner and Head of the London Energy Group Martin Lucas. He was assisted by Partner Ravinder Sandhu and Associates Andrea Bhamber and Danny Perera on the corporate matters, Partner Asha Kumar and Senior Associate Philip Minnis on employment law matters and Partner Tom Jarvis and Associate Rob Firth on tax matters. Partner Mark Tooke, Senior Associate Joe Hesketh, Associate Jennifer Etherington and Senior Associate Charlotte Williams advised on the IT, regulatory, finance and real estate aspects of the transaction respectively.

Martin commented: “It’s been a great pleasure to once again support Vattenfall, especially on such a strategically important acquisition for them. ISupplyEnergy is a great business with some great people and acquiring it will help Vattenfall go from strength to strength as they enter the UK energy retail market”.
