Matthew is an associate in the Dispute Resolution group.

Matthew specialises in general commercial litigation and international arbitration, with particular experience in aviation and energy disputes.

Matthew joined Watson Farley & Williams as a trainee in 2019 and qualified in 2021.  He has worked in the firm’s London, Paris and Bangkok offices.

  • Successfully acting for a European project developer and EPC contractor specialising in utility-scale solar power installations and other energy projects in two LCIA arbitrations seated in London under a contract on bespoke terms, against one of the world’s largest solar panel manufacturers. The arbitrations related to alleged breaches of agreement to procure approximately USD140m of PV panels and related equipment for multiple projects across three continents with a total capacity of more than 680MW.
  • Advising a large investment fund, the sole creditor of a major energy supply company, following the energy company going into the UK's first energy supplier special administration.
  • Acting for a major ship-owner in a trade finance disputer under a sale-lease back arrangement.
  • Acting for an LNG importer in a US$ multi-million LCIA arbitration proceeding against a global trading company regarding invoicing disputes under a long-term master sales and purchase agreement.
  • Acting for an aircraft lessor in a US$ multi-million LCIA arbitration proceedings against a guarantor regarding the termination of a lease agreement.
  • Acting for a contractor in relation to a delay dispute over the hire of equipment and personnel for an international interconnector.
