Patrick has over 27 years’ experience advising on a wide range of cross-border matters in the maritime sector.

His work in advising owners and financiers on deals has been recognised by Marine Money as recent Deals of the Year. He regularly supports owners, operators, banks, export credit agencies and funds on investment, construction, chartering, operation, financing, intercreditor and structuring arrangements, achieving efficient solutions across complex projects.

Areas of special expertise include the structuring of maritime finance, lease and credit-wrapped projects, tax and operating leases, chartering and operational arrangements for a wide spectrum of vessel types, including LNG and other product carriers, cruise ships, tankers, car carriers and many other specialist vessel types. Patrick also works in the financing and operation of FPSOs and drillships.

Patrick’s work often centres on the cross-over between owners’ current and future needs – in the negotiation and documenting of construction, chartering, management, spares sharing, contracts of affreightment, supply and service agreements – while also assisting with them with their financing and corporate programmes, having worked in private practice and in-house in the UK, Greece and Denmark.

Patrick is recognised for his ability to help clients by simplifying complex issues in chartering, construction and project and asset finance.  Patrick works regularly with owners and banks across their project document negotiations and due diligences and, as a required, their financings.

He is recommended as a shipping finance expert by legal directories Legal 500 UK and IFLR 1000, with the former highlighting in 2023 that he is “‘able to comprehend complex issues, find the right solutions and then compose perspicuous and intelligible contractual clauses. A craftsman in precise drafting. Very knowledgeable and with vast experience in shipping financing“.

  • Advising a major shipowner on its financing, shipbuilding and charter arrangements for the world’s first Arctic class LNG project. The deal was named “Project Finance Deal of the Year – West” by Marine Money.
  • Advising Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd on the construction, financing and deliveries of the world’s largest cruise ships “Symphony of the Seas” and “Harmony of the Seas”.
  • Advising a major tanker owner on a finance facility from Sberbank of Russia, for certain Ice-Class shuttle tankers. The deal was named “Project Finance Deal of the Year” by Marine Money.
  • Representing a syndicate of banks on the complex financing of a specialist 3-yard oil and gas related vessel integrating ECA support from 3 separate ECAs. This deal was named by Marine Money as the “Structured Finance Deal of the Year”.
  • Advising a container ship owner across a wide spectrum of its private and public North American, European and Chinese funding, leasing and financing arrangements.
