New London Maritime Disputes hire brings a sea of knowledge14 January 2020

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is delighted to announce that David Handley, a qualified lawyer and master mariner, has joined the firm’s Dispute Resolution group in London as a Senior Associate. David was previously at Clyde & Co.

David started his career in the shipping industry nearly 25 years ago, joining P&O Cruises as a deck officer cadet. He worked on cruise vessels for 12 years, rising to Senior First Officer. After coming ashore, David has worked in the law since 2008 at Hill Dickinson, Steamship Mutual, Reed Smith, Gard AS and most recently Clyde & Co. His unique skillset as a qualified lawyer with substantial disputes experience and deep practical industry knowledge will bolster and support our world leading maritime practice, both in the contentious and non-contentious spheres.

David’s recruitment is key to WFW’s global maritime Dispute Resolution strategy and he will be working closely with the firm’s Athens office on owner, P&I and collision matters.

Partner and London Co-Head of Dispute Resolution Andrew Ward commented: “We are very excited about David joining us. His practical and legal experience, and his impressive sector contact list, will allow us to open doors and continue to build on the global high quality sector specialist service we provide to our clients”.

Athens Maritime Disputes Partner Antonis Lagadianos concurred, adding: “It is great to have David on board and we are very much looking forward to working together. With his strong background and wide experience in handling complex admiralty matters, I firmly believe that he will add tremendous value to our team and give us an edge over the competition in the Greek market”.
