WFW enhances energy disputes offering with new partner hire4 March 2025

Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) is pleased to announce that energy disputes lawyer Susan D. Maples has joined the firm as a partner in New York. She joins from Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP where she was a partner.

Susan has extensive experience advising on complex disputes and transactions across the energy sector encompassing cost recovery, profit petroleum sharing, stabilization, renewable energy schemes, geologic data sharing, and title disputes. She has also developed knowledge of disputes relating to audit processes and procedures in a variety of sectors and advising clients in highly regulated industries. Her transactional and regulatory practice includes advising on licensing and bid rounds in energy and mining.

Susan is highly regarded for her investment treaty and international arbitration experience, with a particular focus on Asia and Africa. She was recently highlighted as an Arbitration Future Partner in the Lexology Index International Arbitration Report 2025, and as a Leading Partner in the Legal 500: EMEA 2024 for Kazakhstan Energy and Natural Resources.

Valued for her understanding of challenging stakeholder environments, ESG principles and government-business interaction, Susan’s clients include publicly listed corporations, entrepreneurs, privately held companies, sovereign states, state-owned entities, and public international organizations.
