Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) has advised independent French photovoltaic energy producer Photosol on the formation of a joint development platform with French project developer Aedes Energies to co-develop a photovoltaic project portfolio with a capacity over 200 MWp in Nouvelle Aquitaine and Occitanie regions.
The joint venture, “Aedes-Photosol Développement”, allows both companies to pool their expertise to develop the portfolio, the first projects of which should be commissioned in 2024. Aedes Energies will be responsible for the development of the projects, including obtaining the administrative authorisations necessary for the construction and operation of the power plants, while Photosol will look after the projects technical and financial optimisation and connection.
Founded in 2008, Photosol specialises in large photovoltaic installations either on the ground or in shade houses of more than 3ha. A leading player in the French renewables sector, they employ 100+ specialists and have one of the largest portfolios in France in operation and under construction with a combined capacity of over 400 MWp. Their portfolios under development total 3 GWp in France and exceed 8 GWp in the United States.
Structured around a multidisciplinary team spread over three sites in France, Aedes Energies has a portfolio of ground power plant projects of 800+ MWp under development.
The WFW Paris team advising Photosol was led by Corporate Partner Pascal Roux, assisted by Senior Associate Pierre Chipaux. They worked closely throughout with the Photosol in-house team comprising Legal Director Vincent Mallejac, Business Development Director Thomas Aubagnac, In-house Counsel Wilfried Dietrich and Business Developer Juliette Moutarlier.
