WFW boosts German practice with second partner hire of 20182 July 2018

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) has further expanded its German offering with the arrival of regulatory expert Dr Felix Siebler, previously a Salaried Partner at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek in Munich. Felix will work out of both the firm’s Munich and Frankfurt offices.

Felix specialises in procurement, state aid and general public (commercial) law. His client base primarily comprises public authorities, such as federal and state ministries, local authorities and municipal and publically owned companies. He also advises private companies in connection with their public sector activities.

Areas of specific expertise include advising on the expansion and modernisation of infrastructure (e.g. buildings, railways, hospitals, schools etc.), telecommunications (e.g. fibre optics/broadband cabling) and general supply procurement projects, on digital/IT strategies and their implementation for both public and private entities, restructuring public organisational units and public private partnerships.

Marcus Bechtel, WFW Germany Head, commented: “Felix represents a major addition to our German regulatory practice. He also expands the group’s offering into the procurement, state aid, planning and general public (regulatory) law spaces, which is critical given that the public sector is one of main drivers and investors in infrastructure projects in Germany. In addition, banks and private investors have increased their demand for regulatory advice in connection with infrastructure-related projects. I’m also delighted to welcome our second new Partner to the firm this year, following on from that of Munich-based aviation finance specialist Jonathan Mullender in March”.

Managing Partner Lothar Wegener added: “Expanding our energy & infrastructure practice beyond renewables and into the broader energy and infrastructure, maritime, real estate and transport sectors is one of our primary strategic goals in Germany, and Felix’s expertise will help us do just that”.

Felix said: “WFW’s commitment to further expanding its already highly regarded energy and infrastructure practice in Germany makes it an ideal platform both for my clients and the further development of my practice. In particular, I look forward to helping build up a public sector practice for WFW Germany, as well as expanding my client base and work for private sector clients such as infrastructure funds, banks and strategic investors in the firm’s core sectors”.
